Don't Cover It Up
"For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified."1 Corinthians 2:2
I read about a little chapel in England that had a sign above the door that read, “We Preach Christ Crucified,” and that was true. But the chapel had vines growing over its walls, and in time the vines covered part of the sign so that it read, “We Preach Christ.” And the chapel messages declared that Jesus was a good man, and that we should offer a cup of cold water in His name, but most people stopped bringing their Bibles to church. A generation passed, the vines continued to grow, and finally the sign read, “We Preach.” That’s all. We preach philosophy, we preach ethics, we preach politics. And the little chapel became empty and deserted.
Any church that wants to remain alive and vital must preach Christ crucified. It is the message of the Cross that divides all of humanity – and that has the power to change lives.
