Father figures
"These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."Deuteronomy 6:6-10
C. S. Lewis once said he had balked at Christianity because he resisted authority. Many people have authority issues, but we must realize that authority is necessary if we are to function in our homes and society as God designed. God uses the father to establish His model for authority and leadership. A father leads by teaching and sharing God’s Word in his family and community. He is a cheerleader and an encourager, loving his wife sacrificially and helping his children discover and develop their uniqueness, creativity, and gifts.
If fathers would become the authority and spiritual leaders God intended them to be, we could strengthen our families and turn our culture right side up. Dads, God has equipped you. Your family, your church, and your nation need you. Are you up to the challenge to model biblical authority and leadership?
