The King Who Relinquished His Throne
December 24, 2024
"For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now."Romans 8:19-22
We live in a fallen world. Not only do we humans suffer from the sin of Adam and Eve in the garden, nature does, too. In fact Paul tells us that all of creation is groaning. And it’s true. Almost every sound we hear from non-human creation is in the minor key. From the roaring waves and howling winds to the call of most animals, the sounds of nature with few exceptions are groanings of sadness, darkness, even death. Creation is crying out for redemption, for new birth … and that is exactly what will happen when Christ returns.
We will receive our resurrected bodies, and there will be a new heaven and a new earth – a whole new creation. The minor key groanings will disappear and become major key songs of joy, light and eternal life.
