The King Who Relinquished His Throne

"But Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head."Psalms 3:3
At a time when David was overwhelmed by fear, he remembered to turn to God in trust, He declared, “You are a shield to me.” What kind of shield was this? It was not the small round shield used in hand-to-hand combat. It was a large shield, perhaps the size of a door, that wrapped around you. It protected you when your captain ordered you to storm a fortress. It is interesting that the shield only worked when you moved forward. If you turned around, there was no protection for your back.
That is the kind of shield God is for us. He covers us when we move out in life and move forward for Him. We can declare, along with David, “You are the One who shields me, protects me, and defends me – as long as I am moving forward for You.”
