The Difference Is Obvious
"These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life."1 John 5:13
Years ago, I needed to change planes in Atlanta. Due to bad weather, I missed my connecting flight, and the best they could do was put me on the stand-by list with a bunch of other people. If this ever happens to you, look around the waiting area and you will quickly figure out who is on stand-by and who already has a ticket.
Those on stand-by are on edge – restless and anxious for any encouraging word from the attendant at the desk. But those who have their tickets are talking, reading magazines, totally relaxed. You see, that is the way it is when you are confident of your ultimate destination and you know that you know that you’re going to Heaven. You are at peace, and you can deal with the mountain tops and the valleys in life. Jesus does not want us to live with uncertainty. He wants us to be sure of our salvation, to be confident of eternity with Him and confident – in short – that we have our ticket to Heaven. You are ready to live, really live, because you are ready to die.
