The Secret of Perfection
"Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."Matthew 5:48
It’s not surprising that we are uneasy before the magnitude of this command. It appears to imply more than we can do and attain, doesn’t it? But when we are in Christ, and have a new life in Him, He calls us to grow up and mature, and the steps to that spiritual maturity parallel what we do to grow physically. First, we grow naturally. We look to Jesus for refreshment and we allow the Holy Spirit to help us grow and bear fruit. We also grow by breathing, which simply means that we spend time with God in prayer. We breathe Him in, and we breathe out ourselves. We grow by eating, which means that we feed on God’s Word, the Bible. We grow by resting.
The Christian life is not a nervous hanging onto God but a resting in the hollow of His hand. And we grow by exercising. We exercise by sharing our faith with others. We tell them where we stand, and we put our flag up high. God has given each of us the capacity to grow, so let me challenge you today to get going – and get growing!
