…speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord…
-EPHESIANS 5:19
Music is a barometer of our character. Music streams through the Scriptures. In fact, when we get to Heaven, preaching will be finished, but music will be in its fullest power. “He brought me up… out of the miry clay” and “put a new song in my mouth,” says the Psalmist (Psalm 40:2). God lifts us from the mire and puts us in the choir!
Hezekiah, Josiah and Nehemiah were all great reformers, building again the choirs of Israel and Judah. Martin Luther brought reformation and hymns such as “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” John and Charles Wesley embraced the parish of the world with the Lord’s songs.
If you were to write a history of the evangelical church, you would have every reason to title it, “The Sound of Music”. Unleash your heart to make melody to the Lord, and it will throb with vitality!
