Whatever
"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."Philippians 4:8
“Whatever!” That word uttered by someone – often a teenager standing with arms crossed and eyes rolling – has become the quintessential expression of apathy. No one wants to hear an apathetic whatever, especially God. He wants us to be engaging and involved and on the front lines of caring, serving and comforting others.
But there are some very positive “whatevers” that we need to embrace and express in our lives. They are the whatevers found in our passage – the whatevers of things excellent and praiseworthy. God wants us to be about His whatevers, because behind the whatevers of PHILIPPIANS 4:8 is Jesus Christ. So let me challenge you to become not only a person who dwells on whatever is excellent and praiseworthy, but one who also acts on these whatevers of God to make a difference in someone’s life.
