When One Is Enough
"Now the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day."Genesis 18:1
When the Lord appeared to Abraham to tell him that he was planning to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for their wickedness, the Bible tells us that it was “in the heat of the day.” Later, when the angels visited Lot in Sodom, it was night. The Bible has more than three-quarters of a million words – and they are all important! Good loves the light, but evil loves the darkness, so the time of day mentioned in these verses is significant. When Abraham looked down toward Sodom the next morning, he saw the smoke from the destruction of the cities. He realized the angels were unable to find even a few righteous individuals there. Perhaps Abraham wondered if he should have asked God to spare Sodom for even one righteous person.
But the good news for us today is that – through the lineage of Abraham – came One who was righteous enough to take away the sins of the world. One is enough if it’s the Right One – and Jesus is the Right One.
