Which Will You Choose

There are some misguided ways people think they can change their lives. The first is what I call the “hammock sanctification” way. You  say, “I believe in Jesus, and I got baptized, and now I’m just going to relax. I’ll go to church on occasion and read my Bible a little. But, if I mess up, Lord, I’m your property so it’s your fault.” Another way is “treadmill sanctification.” These people try harder, work in their own strength, and hope to get better and better. They are on a treadmill – give more, worship more, read more – and run, run, run.

There is a better way, and that is ”cooperative sanctification.” I give my life to Jesus, and He gives himself to me. I am in Christ and Christ is in me. What a deal. We are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are living a countercultural life, and we are growing in Christ as we have the assurance that we are sons and daughters of God.
